FAQ

What is BLOL?

A community restoration of the long-lost 2015 experience "Borderlands Online" - Released in China and cancelled shortly after. This project aims to bring the game back to life with modern upgrades such as native 4K support, higher frame rates, unlocked FOV, and English localization.

Is this free to play?

Yes. This project does not aim to make money in any way. No paid features or microtransactions are present, or will be added. If anyone tries to take money for anything in relation to this project, you are being scammed and should cease communications immediately.

Do I need an account?

Yes. BLOL requires an account so that our servers (online or not) can identify who is playing, and what data they need to send/receive to and from the server. This includes your character, quest progress, items etc.

Why Are You Doing This?

Media is designed to be consumed, and preserved when possible. Without such efforts put it place before we are all gone, this media is likely to be gone with us. As diehard fans of the series, we believe that modern audiences deserve to experience this game while they still have the chance.

Where are grenade mods?

Grenade mods are not in the game. Sadly, the studio who made the game did not get to implement them prior to shutdown. We did not feel it would be the correct decision to add them to the vanilla game, and as such left them out. They may be added to modded servers in the future.

Can the game be played offline?

Yes. The game can be played offline. In the event of a server outage, the game can be locally hosted on your system, at the cost of multiplayer functionality.

Is the game in English?

Yes. the game has in large part been localized to ENG with the exception of some textures, as changing them would detract too far from the original style of the game. No generative AI was used for the re-designs. If you wish to experience the original full chinese localization, you can add the launch argument "-language:CHI" in the launcher.

How close to the original is this?

While we tried to keep the game as faithful as possible to the original, some changes were made that will differ slightly from the source material. This includes making golden keys an earnable currency instead of MTX, and some slight inaccuracies such as enemy spawn locations, localized strings, potentially balancing values. In addition to this, fonts/color schemes used for translated textures may lack the similarity some players might hope for. We hope you understand that despite the changes listed, the goal from the team was to keep everything as close to the original as possible.
